Re: 3E Crafting Discussion
adding my two cents. in the beginning i thought the masterworks were relatively weak compared to the nwn game stuff, but as i stayed in the vast longer i realised that having a masterwork item isn't for the bonusses anyway. it's for the having. it makes you feel better, shows you've accomplished something (both as maker or wearer)
like glog has masterwork bracers...they don't add anything, just the knowledge that he has them. he would like to get masterwork boots and a belt as well, but has no leathercraft skill :(
when quinn came back, having *found* a dagger +1 it felt like he carried a true magickal weapon, an awesome experience. that's what's great about a low power server...anything extra means something for real. and i'd have this over any dagger +10 with 2D6 acid damage any day.

Re: any other tailors?
I know the Masterwork Items seem weak to some, but coming from a person who is covered in master work, I like the style and the prestige.....when you make it yourself you feel a swelling of pride. And if a friend makes something for you, well, the feeling of friendship and loyalty can't be measured.
Mich has these feelings, and would do anything for his friends, and tries to return the kindness shown to him.
And as was mentioned before, the prestige is very important here. I really hope this makes sense to some out there, and to those that don't know the feelings I was talking about....I am sorry.

Re: 3E Crafting Discussion
I'll try not to wander too far off topic, but I like the way MW weapons are now. Masterwork shouldnt offer any attack bonuses IMHO, MW items are items made almost 'perfect'. Take a weapon, in my eyes MW is made with no imperfections in any of the material used, perfectly balanced in every way with only the highest quality of materials used.
Im not telling anybody how to play their PCs or what they do with thier crafting but IMO, there was/is too much MW items being tossed around on the server, even amongst PC friends. As was said above, MW items are Prestige Items, that means they should be just as rare as ITEM+1. Masterwork items are something to be proud of, but for the crafter crafting it. Of the time Belin was able to craft I have only made a handfull of MW weapons/armour and they had a hefty price tag to the purchaser, even his own armour and weapon I took time with, I may have let others know through tells that I completed it but IC I didnt let everybody know.
Sure Belin would like to contract out some work for armour or weapons, but all MW? I think not. MW takes time, so it should be RPed as such, I currently have an item in the process of MW to another PC, and it was started over a month ago and I have yet to complete it. Its not because I'm not on all the time, I have just one more success roll and its done, its about the RP value of the item. Yes its nice to have friends offer MW items or take on jobs for MW items at low cost, but for me, it just lowers the value both prestige wise and RP wise. I only know a handfull of PCs that craft MW with alot of RP involved(and dont do it often for others), I like that, it adds much more than prestige, gives more meaning to the player than it just being a MW weapon.

Re: 3E Crafting Discussion
I am looking into Attune gem and have run into a couple of questions.
On the Web site under crafting it says that this is a level 1 feat but in the game the crafting menu gives it as level 3 dependant.
Also it says you need a gem of 50gp value per level of the spell being attuned to it. Is the gp value what Drin or Ralbon sells it for or is it based on some other structure?
Thanks,
Darkspyr

This should be the gem's base value in the toolset. Also it says you need a gem of 50gp value per level of the spell being attuned to it. Is the gp value what Drin or Ralbon sells it for or is it based on some other structure?
It could very well be wrong on the site then. The info on the site came from a separate list Vulcano had made. I'd have to check. On the Web site under crafting it says that this is a level 1 feat but in the game the crafting menu gives it as level 3 dependant.

On the crafting of magic
On the crafting of magical arms/wonderous items
I know that there is nowhere to produce them yet, but will there be in the future? Particularly with the magical arms and armor... weapon focus: club isn't going to help my character in any way, and won't be worth taking if I guide him in that route.
I realize that such a feat would likely unbalance things on the server, and that is why there is nowhere to build things at the moment, I'm merely wondering if there will be in the future. Either way is fine, just don't want to take the feat if it can't be used.

If there, and that's a tremendous "if", it will be extremely limited, probably to private residences, and DM controlled areas. On the crafting of magical arms/wonderous items

Re: 3E Crafting Discussion-Jeweler
I've seen nothing here on the jeweler's skill (except for the old discussions on mining the necessary ore) so hopefully this will be a fresh topic.
Clover has been commissioned by a good friend to create some jewelry: two rings with ‘unique’ designs each with a set stone. In the past she has experimented with creating similar rings in silver, the stones being described as ‘common’ in the item description and being of the types onyx, rock crystal quartz, rose quartz.. the common stones. In fact, other stones like amethyst, phenalope, aventurine, etc. aren’t even ALLOWED to be set in silver jewelry. Now that I’ve been trying to have her work with gold, my assumption was: better metal, better gems. That hasn’t been the case. The ‘better’ gems are still disallowed and the ‘lesser’ gems are still described as ‘common stones’ (which makes sense, of course). Is my logic flawed, is this a bug, or am I simply ignorant of the 3E system and perhaps she just isn’t capable of that level of craftsmanship?
Thanks for any help. A good friend of Clover’s eagerly awaits completion of these items. ;)

Re: On the crafting of magic
I can't say, offhand. 3E has almost no documentation to speak of. If it's not a bug, then maybe it's a skill level thing.

Re: 3E Crafting Discussion-Jeweler
From my limited experience with jewelcraft, the only gems that can be used are the type that come from rough stones. The "loot only" sort of gems don't seem to be usable, and the same goes for the non crafted rings, etc (trying to mount a gem on a silver ring from a goblin for instance - although perhaps that isnt supposed to work anyway)

*nods* Oh.. yeah. That would make sense. I'll experiment some more on that premise. Thanks JeKylL.

Re: 3E Crafting Discussion-Jeweler
That I know isn't supposed to work. I don't know if the gems you're getting are default BioWare gems, or if they're custom ones we made early on, or if they're ones from 3E. I'd guess only 3E gems should work.and the same goes for the non crafted rings, etc (trying to mount a gem on a silver ring from a goblin for instance - although perhaps that isnt supposed to work anyway)

Down time between crafting attempts
I've been attempting to locate the true duration of time required between attempts, and the only thing I have located is "once per day". The reason I ask is that I made a crafting attempt at the Vesper guild and then waited 24 RL hours and then went back in and was told I could not make any more crafting attempts that day. I received the same message two more days before I quit attempting (don't feel like buying another key yet).
Anyway, is a day the period between server resets, or is it RL time or is it defined? Or did I not wait long enough and was accidently resetting the timer?

Rest Cycle..
Crafting can be done each rest cycle,
8 hours in game thus 2 mins RL per IG hour = every 16 mins RL after resting.
