well it has been stated before, but it cant hurt to state the truth more than once.
AI attacking a prone body when other targets are around should be considered a bug that has to be taken care of. Its not very realistic that they do it ( think survival ).
Of course I am bringing this up because i just died from said experience
Re: the AI stink
Same thing, plus lag, got Card. Couldn't fight, couldn't drink a potion, couldn't move.

I went to -1, got hit by an arrow while down, just as Ashall cast a cure on me.

Showed up in Fugue at +11 hp, and of course went to full hp immediately (granted by the Fugueness).

Enough ways to die out there without adding lag and an AI that targets unconcious people.
Re: the AI stink
Lets be fair. The AI issue was already established as a bioware issue. AG and TL prolly have enough on their hands supplying us with a free interesting and fun gameing experience. And lag, well that sucks with any game. I'm sure it could be cleared up if they only allowed 4-5 people on at a time. Boy would that suck.

They do res you after a lag death, don't they?

Re: lag
Regarding lag.

I hate to tell you all this, but on a server with 24 or fewer players like this one, 90-some% of lag is client side. The server program does not take much to run. It is the graphics rendering on the client computers that is the biggest culprit. Try experimenting with different display settings and visual options to optimize your performance. A better video card will also do wonders. I guess it is the price we pay for such a cool visual environment.

Re: Tryllkill comment
well I think I am being Fair here, I just changed the heading on my first comment because i thought it was a bit harsh
And this is the reason why we have this Forum, to talk about things. I´m sure AG doesn´t have any i´ll feelings about players that love the Vast, wanting the vast to get even better than it is ( I´m not saying any of my suggestions will do this, thats up for discussion ). And maybe its as good as i can be with the resources at hand, and thats what we´ll live with. But don't even think for a second that things wont be brought up. Anything is possible, just needs a little work. And from hard work you shall receive a greater pleasure.
Lag
Many factors impact lag, of which client-side rendering is only one. Processor speed and type (an Intel Pentium IV chip will out-perform an Intel Celeron chip of of the same processing speed: graphics rendering is very math intensive, and the Celeron chip doesn't have the math coprocessing that the Pentium chip does), Internet connection (a 56K modem vs. broadbband), server load, packet routing and much, much more.

Performance should not be an issue on the machine I game with: 1.6Ghz Intel Pentium IV processor, 1Gb RAM, 64Mb nVidia video card with resolution set to 24-bit at 1024x768 (I found early on that 32-bit color does slow things down a bit rendering-wise) running Windows XP Pro. Connection-wise, I use a cable modem, and Comcast had just upped the downstream speed to 4 Mbps and upstream speed to 384 Kbps.

In the scope of NWN, one can't say ... "Gee, I am experiencing lag, so I will change the resolution and color depth on the fly ..." NWN is such a memory hog, that other processes on the PC don't get their fair share of time-slicing, and you'd be dead before you could accomplish that.

Generally speaking once again, lag is caused by many things, some of which are server-related; some of which are transport (TCP/IP) related; and some of which are client related.

The likelihood of lag increases as the party size and encounter size increases, and we had both in that situation. It does not matter how robust the client is, at some point the end-to-end system bogs down (lags), and the character either dies in-game or the lag gets progressively worse and you get timed out and booted.

Ultimately, however, no matter what the cause of the lag, it tends to ruin the gaming experience, particularly in crisis situations. Without lag, Card would have had time to read a scroll of invisibility, or drink a potion of cure serious wounds (or two), or fall back to the healers. (All of which I attempted to do.) However, before he could accomplish -one- combat action, he suffered many combat rounds worth of negative effects.

Card has died before--three times, in fact--before this last. I recognized that he died in those previous instances due to mistakes -I- made, so accepted the penalty and gamed on. After spending six months in character development, and going from level 3 to 2, level 4 to 3, and level 5 to 4 previously ... and now level 5 to 4 again, I can only say: It gets OLD. Add to the fact that Card has been level 5 (prior to his last death) for over two months, and at the time of his death had but 11,077 xp ... that's 1,077 xp over 5th level for two months of gaming, and I do RP I would say IMHO, so I reached a point where I just felt that it was all just a point of diminishing returns.

Now it has been said that XP is not the object, roleplay is the object. However, XP is the reflection of character development, the gaining of new skills and reflects the character's increasing advancement. In other words, it gives you a sense of accomplishment, that all the roleplay and putting the character at risk has been worth it. When you lose that feeling, it is time to take a break.
I sincerely hope that it is just a break. I think I speak for everyone when I say that you'd be severly missed here.

In my many months of playing on this server, I have come to realize so many new and exciting faccets of rp. I think the most important lesson that I have learned is that it is not my character that makes this server great. It is everyone else.

If my charcter dies, so be it. I know it is frustrating. But, I have come to get entirely more upset when the Vast losses it's best Rpers. That hurts my charcters more than death itself. Without the great Roleplayers that the Vast has, my character is nothing. No matter the level.

I know that lag and AI can be infuriating at times. If my character dies because of lag, I just chalk it up to all the times I take advantage of the creature's poor AI. How many times that I've ran away off screen to find myself safe. Come on, in real DnD that monster would cross over with you. I think we all know that. Anyway, I chalk it up to karma and move on.

I am not trying to criticize you at all. I look up to you as a Rper in every sense of the word. I just want you and the others to know that they are what really makes the Vast "go".
