*Claps loudly* BRAVO!

That is exactly what i was trying to say, but i was trying to tone my comments down and be nice. Everyone needs to stop making and these *brooding* charaters and evil ones that NOONE is going to rp with....do away with the cliques and make Dragon Dale a community again instead of a scene from a Star Wars movie.

*pulls out his Holy Avenger and holds it to the sky*
Hmmm I feel I need to put in my voice again...

Only a few weeks ago, we all discussed this Charisma topic.

Chatting to and from about how people should value, playing their charisma more strictly etc. and how DMs look at the players charisma as one of the first things.
Based on that and based on my 'want' to create another character to go alongside Innu (not literary speaking)... I decided to make one, which were detrimentally different from her - and I came up with Elvithril first, a very anti-social character mostly because he feared them. He mostly sat brooding, spitting on the dwarves etc. Some time after his death I finally came up with the concepts for Ananiki - A savage, hating males etc. She isn't really anti-social but sometimes seems like it, and has a very savage and harsh behavior...

I believe I actually play her quite well, and at least I enjoy playing her and I know others enjoy her too (which matters alot) - but now you all seems to be saying that these type of characters should be avoided! - I'm confused!

Do you want a happy hippie community or an image of the real-life community?

I personally largely prefer the last... I know I may scare off knew players if their first encounter is with Ananiki when she is not happy! But I try to RP it as well as possible and encourage them to play along... and often she has friends nearby to take over and explain her actions to them...

If you (the DMs) notice that she seems to really offend and harrass new players, plz let me know!

As always my assumptions are largely based on what I experience with my characters...
I agree with that too Innu.

There should be room for those character too...anti-social, provoking etc.

But they should interact those traits with everyone. Honestly I don't care how people role play that character. Be mean, sweet, ugly or pretty...whatever. But give everybody a chance to see that. Even the new ones in the community. You can easilly have an anti-social character and be very much a part of the community. I will now use a name. Sorry if I offend anyone. Valens, I believe do that very well. IMO he is a very anti-social characer. Have seen that a lot when I make a noob character and play around in secret. Very rarely (if ever) have I really talked with him. But he has always responding to my comments and emotes with emotes. That is anti-social, but role playing the community gains from.

I don't want to see people that are anti-socal and show it by just ignoring everyone except the closest. At least send an emote, like *staring right at the noob, sighs and looks away* or something like that. Your character ignores his character, but you as a player don't ignore the other player. Make sense?

I have not stated that I don't want to see anti-social characters...I have stated that I want to see people be in a community instead of a clique. That is the beauty of NWN...instead of being a small group around a table, we are a large one, playing across seas and plains.
All of what I stated in the previous post is also more for the role player of the months nomination...about how people should pick another player.
Make up whatever presonalities you like folks. Just please keep Apollo's words in your heart:

Quote:
At least send an emote, like *staring right at the noob, sighs and looks away* or something like that. Your character ignores his character, but you as a player don't ignore the other player. Make sense?

Role-playing is interacting with eachother, whether it is with words, or with descriptive "emotes". You don't need to talk volumes to be a fantastic role-player. I look for characters that seem alive to me, characters with tangible personalities, characters who have flaws, characters who have strengths, characters who are real.

Please try to be part of the community as a whole, whether it is standing around by the well, or travelling to deep, dark caverns in groups. Bring something to the table through your character. Return more to the community through your characterizations than you take from the community. Do not act at eachother, interact with eachother. Give eachother a chance to to share the stage and spotlight; it is not a play until the whole troupe has had a turn on stage.

Yeah, AG is clarifying what I meant to say. There is a big difference between playing a broody reclusive character and being exclusive. You don't have to interact with another char, but make a point that you are deliberatly not, like AG said emote *ignores the elf and walks on* or some such, but when someone speaks to you, or asks you something, do not just completely ignore them, especially, if you are giving your attention to certain other players at the time. In a group of 5 people, it should not be the case where 2 people dominate conversation and do not listen to anyone else. Remember, you cannot command respect, it is given to you, so do not assume people SHOULD listen to you or value your opinion above their own.

Oi! - Sorry for misunderstanding you Apollo... but what the hell, now that is cleared out.

----

About sharing the stage:
This is, I think the most difficult thing of all. I mean everyone can 'emote' some actions and do some talking... but sharing the stage is rather difficult - I admit that fully.
As an example, Innu does take a lot of the scene when she begins to sing and (especially during the long songs) this might annoy others in the 'party', but I can't really do anything about it I guess, apart from stepping down from the scene when she has finished and step into the background for some time letting the other players come in with their plots.
On the other hand, while sharing the scene is important, I think it is also important to dare taking the scene sometimes. Especially with new characters, I think they often need to take the scene to get their plot into the community.
Well, now I'm babbling again so I better stop, before I say something which I do not mean...
One thing I do, if my character is about to do something despicable is send a 'tell' to the other player. Let them know it's not personal, but that I'm roleplaying a character. I have gotten some positive responses, and once chased off a powergamer, who asked if the Vast was one of 'those servers.'

I also think that we are looking at a limiting factor as far as spotlight sharing. The larger a group we have, the less likely that folks will get a turn in the spotlight. We had 10 characters on the Warrens quest yesterday. During most of it, I had as many as two conversations to carry on IC, with as many as three conversations by 'tell' regarding folks needing to log out, or go AFK, or other matters. Trying to keep that many folks moving towards a goal, I'm sure I stepped on others' time in the spotlight. I apologize for that, but we are attempting to obtain goals while keeping folks alive.

These are my two cents on these very good comments I've read.
longevity on the server does not make for superior role-playing abilities, that has become a harmful misconception

All excellent points.

And then, on the other hand, we have those characters that aren't particularily interested in the proverbial limelight.
Those that would rather play the scrimms and living backdrops.

Pye, for instance, has no desire to play the great hero or the malevolent villain.
He'd be happy with a full purse and a warm bed-mate.

I, personally, am not particularily interested in playing a character that's motivated to take center stage constantly.
I'd rather explore other avenues.
This is why the rogue/bard is so ever appealing.
They are chroniclers and shadow-characters, that move through the wings. To play on the theatre analogy, once more.

You can keep the spotlight, I don't want it.
