Re: Reports of vermin activity
*Merin raises a hand to Keldorn then heads to the bar and aks the bartender for "the book". The bartender mutters somethign about an unending stream but hands the book down. Scanning through the writings he shakes his head and then pens neatly at the bottom of one page* Two leagues west of town near the lake I came across the body of a fallen dwarf. He was still sorrounded by the pack that brought him down. I was able to kill and drive them off but their numbers and equipment concerned me. They are beginning to carry rations of food for more than one days patrol. I had to seek the help of Keldorn to carry the weighty body back to the cemetery and put it to rest. Old Bill seems to have an unending task ahead which further concerns me.
*Clover approaches the Wayfarer bar and whispers to Budrich after which he hands her the log book. She finds a quiet corner and begins to write*

I have been on many patrols of the outlying lands recently with little to report except for normal activity. The one exception: I encountered a seemingly rag-tag lone group of vermin in the secluded meadow southwest of town. One of them attacked me with a thunderstone; a tactic I've not encountered from foes such as them before. I was able to overcome them, however, but their possessions did cause me some concern. They carried many implements I would not expect goblins to normally have access to. Tinderboxes, torches, medicine bags and such. Also they had many gems, jewelry and other valuables suggesting that they have taken on the roles of bandits and thieves in addition to raiders.
This is all I have to report for now. I will continue my patrols and report accordingly.
Dear MrFaelar:
I am aware thatyou are putting an effort to erradicating the Goblin vermin in the inmediatte vicinity, and i am more than happy to add my observations in this matter.
Two days ago i was returning with Master Keldorn from the Ranger's settlement upon my first visit to it, on a certain area of the woods we came upon three of the vermin and dispatched them quickly and as painlessly as possible. However jus as we searched their corpses two pairs of the same kind of ill-equipped vermin came out of the clusters of trees to our left and right...this seemed like an intent on ambushing us which unfortunately for them didn't work out Master Keldorn's skill with his axe and my bolts prooved more than a match for the vermin.
I have also recovered a scroll, some decent amount of gold and various precious stones from varios vermin corpses.
End of the report
Recently I was engaged in an academic expedition studying local wildlife's suitability for magical service *scratched out* service in an arcane capacity. I was attatched to a patrol of Master Valkeer's for my own security. It is pleasing to report that we encountered less resistance from the goblins than in previous expeditions *scratched out* journeys outside the gates of the Dale. Another *squeezed word 'positive' above note was that the creatures bore only mundane weaponry. Perhaps your campaign is having an effect on the enemies' numbers.
P.S. I encountered a small viper on this jaunt and was greatly impressed with its *scratched out* the creature's potential for service as a familiar. More investigation is needed before a decision can be made with any finality.

disturbing news reached my ears today. some time ago the northern fringe was invaded by 3 archers and some 10 warriors. sir nespin of the high forest fell to their fury.
why has nobody reported this? i hear sir karn of the dwarves recovered sir nespin.
*Clover sneaks downstairs and peers around the corner, checking if Madam Pansy has gone. Noting her absence, she approaches the bar and requests the log book from Budrich. She then sits, alone, and solemnly begins to write*

I, Clover Glendoe, take full responsibility for this careless and gross oversight to which Madam Fellosscobbert refers. I accompanied Master Karn when we recovered Nespin's body, and it was my responsibility to make such a report. I was derelict in my duties and I am sorry.

The numbers Madam Felloscobbert quoted were of my own account. However, Master Karn may be a more reliable source of information on the event as it was he who felled the overwhelming majority of the vermin. We did not take note of their possessions, as this was a recovery effort and our immediate attention was needed by Master Nespin.

Again, my sincerest appologies for my lapse in good judgement.
re:goblin reports
I ran afoul of the above-mentioned goblins. I was in rather a poor state and was unable to guage their numbers although from the above-accounts by ladies Pansy and Clover their were more of them then I had ahd time to note before falling. I should hve made mention of this but in preparing for a short sojourn from the dale I was remiss. Accept my apologies for this oversight.
*sir keldorn and i, pansy went on a little patrol. it was eversomuch odd, for we didn't find anything out of the ordinary. in the glen-cave we came upon one blessing potion and two gems. oh, and another curious thing....when we entered the glen-cave we noticed several dead rats, the live ones took to my presence and warned us that more goblins were in wait, but somehow we didn't see them. just as we talked about the strange absence of goblins, they swarmed us. (to no avail, of course, since sir keldorn had his axe on the ready) oh, another odd thing occured. when i heard an acolyte start to chant i took carefull aim, closed my eyes and shot him. somehow a grunt lay dead with a bolt in his eye and the acolyte had been attacking sir keldorn? i never saw an acolyte charge like that before. unless he was tired of casting.
Re: Reports of vermin activity
*written in common in a flowing hand*

Yet another warrior has fallen to the arrows of the vermin archers. Master Lucian Willer had the kindness to offer to assist me during a routine goblin patrol in the glade SW of the Dale near the North fringe of the woods and he payed dearly. The condition seems to be this: their forces are making a slow and methodical movement from the west. They lead with ranged attackers and some are postitioned strategically on high ledges and behind clumps of trees as well. Their projectiles weaken their opposition leaving wounded and disoriented prey for their foot soldiers in training. The instance in question: A particularly deadly archer was hiding on a cliff ledge and began to assail myself and Master Lucian as we approached. He was quite well equiped with medicinal potions and a large curved sword, with which he nearly took my life as well. I just want to stress that small patrols are still extremely dangerous and I am just as guilty of ignoring this simple bit of common sense as anyone. I myself will stick to a rule of no less than four.
Re: Reports of vermin activity
*penned in block letters by a firm hand*
Two recent events might be of some interest to those active in the goblin campaign. Several days ago a small group of folks traveled into the Bath cave. We encountered no less than six archers, two warriors, two bugbears and at least one goblin shaman. They had trapped the cave with very deadly traps and had placed a large iron bound chest with-in the back of the cave. After overcoming the goblins, their kin and the traps, we found the chest full of jewelry, coins, potions and traps. I believe this was a goblin pay chest.

The second event occurred a day or so later. Another small group proceeded to the warren entrance in the glades. We were forced to rapidly retreat by a force of at least a half-dozen archers. The approaches to the entrance had again been trapped with some skill. We were *words are scratched out* unable to mount a reattack or gain any information about what the goblins were up to. Their numbers and actions seem highly suspicious. They were (or are) up to something.

A final word, the traps used by the goblins are deadly and growing more so. All who approach their holes should use great care. *scratched out* Someone must discover where they are getting these tools. It seems unlikely they are making them.

The Company has recently pledged their support for this campaign. We stand ready to assist.
Nothing truly strange to report other than the goblins seem to continue to be well armed and outfitted. Large numbers of decently forged blades and provisions of vatious types. They also seem to have a patrol of ten to twelve watching the south gates every night, seemingly counting guard changes and testing the defenses.
The goblins just past the South Gate are getting sneakier. I walked about looking for them but only spotted the one slinger near the bush just to the South of gate. Killed him and was swarmewd by 7 more immediately. No great shakes in fight, but I was surprised I didn't spot more with that many about. May be geting sneakier.

Re: Reports of vermin activity
It seems that the vermin have increased the number of archers in the Mhyrrwood and given them armor to better protect them from our own arrows. Perhaps this is to deal with the numbers of spiders now found in the North Mhyrrwood? Let us keep vigilant and travel with others to avoid becoming one of the fallen, good folk.
