Charisma is how you are perceived by others. Your Alignment is how you are prone to act. Put very squarely.<br>
<br>
In your example of a low Cha, Lawful Good character. He or she is likely to stick to the law and have a good heart, but it may be hidden behind a disgusting demeanor. No bathing. Cruel scars in the face. A rude language. Generally rude. etc. etc. He would be perceived as a rough boy maybe a savage, however his intentions will still be good and lawful.<br>
<br>
As for the high Cha, Evil character. Might be a character that uses his or her charms to gain knowledge which to manipulate into evil deeds. Or to get 'close' to a victim for assasination. etc. etc. Their charms hides the evil 'intentions'.

Low charisma does not imply a mean and cranky personality.
Though it could mean you have that kind of personality. I'd say you could be more likely to be perceived that way with a lower charisma. Low charisma can be protrayed in many ways. Take into account how far below the average of 10 it is too. A 6 will be far more unappealing than a 9.

It seems to me that crude, sloppy, and disgusting reflect on personality, and I'm not sure what you mean by "decent personality". Some examples might help.<hr></blockquote><!--EZCODE QUOTE END--><br>
<br>
I meant that in the phisical sense. Its very possible to see someone whi is a nice person but is generaly ugly, unkept, maybe a bit smelly. But your right, it does fall into a area of personality.<br>
<br>
I guess what Im trying to get at here is that with a low chr, does that really mean the person "must" be grumpy and mean? Or is there other ways of portraying a lower chr?

It absolutely must come out in the personality in some ways.

A low charisma doesn't necessecerely mean you need to be grumpy and mean. A low charisma can be shown in many ways: Shyness, rough manners, being too straightforward, asking too many things in a short space of time, having strange ticks, being slightly mad, need more examples?

<br>
How would you play a chr. of 10<br>
<br>
How about 9?<br>
<br>
how about 8?<br>
<br>
<br>
I know of course that the other stats like int, and wis would have a roll here as well. but lets say for the sake of this question that the stats are average.

on a curious side note. How does charisma play into race?<br>
<br>
for example dwarves get a -2 to charisma, which I have always taken to mean, that while 10 is the normal kind of run of the mill charisma, most dwarves will fall short of it and only have 8 (this of course being how i've interpreted it and likely wrong) <br>
<br>
This could likely seem off putting to a society that has a naturally high charisma, but to a dwarf, a charisma of 8 would be par for the course. I guess what I mean is that in dwarf to dwarf relations, a dwarf with an 8 is pretty standard and wouldn't seem too have a lack of charisma, while outside of those relationships the dwarf would likely be more prone to show a lack of it.<br>
<br>
I don't know if I explained that very well <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START : --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

It was only a matter of time till I posted here eh? Hrm I recently aquired eagles splendor in Aramil's everpresent search to improve his ability to function in normal society (if only for short periods of time) and to ease his frusteration with merchants. Here's my question, what are your views on how it affects ones personality? (leaving my opinion out so I get unique ideas)

So Aramil is not that charismatic... but how does he feel about it? Is he aware that it is his own problem, or does he believe that the others are generally unpleasant and rude to him? In this last case, he may be tempted to use the Eagle's Splendor not in himself, but in those that annoy him... like the merchants, perhaps. But I'm not suggesting you use the spell in this manner, of course (*runs to a corner, hoping that AG won't punish him too hard*) - to cast spells in NPCs is not even allowed, I think... I'm simply adressing the point as how he feels about it, how knowing the spell could affect his personality. Thus, this possible temptation. A temptation to be resisted, maybe with some RP consequences.
But you are probably more interested in how Aramil's behaviour shoud change under the spell, so in this case you can safely disregard my comment. It's a kind of nonsense, anyway. However, it raises an abstract point that may be valid in the context of this thread: to what degree is a character aware of his own lack of charisma, or blames society and feels unjustly rejected? Maybe the answer is in his wisdom score.
Just some thoughts.

Thats a good way of looking at it. He is well aware that people think he is rude and uncouth. He has gone through some "correctional exercises" through some forced teaching by Neville, and has had the fact shoved into his face over and over again, he is aware, the main thing is, he doesnt see the long term drawbacks of not being nice and doesn't care about those except he has business relationships with, however, after noting that others seem to get better prices on average with goods he has decided that he would boost his ability to become more forcible with words, and better able to guide the folk who obviously aren't getting what he's been trying to tell them. (figured I'd just give you my opinion since the topic really died till here)

err... add on that just hit me. For one thing Aramil doesn't have a sheet saying he has a charisma of 8, for all he knows hes got a cha of 14 and everyone is just real dense and rude. He also has the brains enough to know that it's easier to cast a spell on yourself than on the rest of the world.

As this thread has shown, charisma is some sort of combination between personality and appearance, so I think Eagle's Splendor would affect both of those attributes. One would have to take into account how charismatic the person becomes after the spell. I can imagine things happening like the person appearing to lose scars or warts, their face seeming more symmetrical, etc., as well as perhaps losing a stutter if they have one, or becoming less shy and having a more commanding presence.
Perhaps these are slightly dramatic changes, but might appear if the person were to jump from say, 8 to 13, something like that.

Bumped and stickied.
Remember, if you're going to nerf ability scores (especially Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma), the DMs will expect you to play them.
