Returning player question

Greetings all,

As a player who hasn't logged any play time since 2007 on the Vast, I've got a couple of questions on RPing my character's return. Are characters expected to pick up where we left off or RP a return after an absence? What is the passage of time if we're returning? I guess the real question is how everyone is dealing with the relaunch in RP terms?

For example, I left during the first extended server problems during the spring/summer of 2007. Looking at the forums, looks like things came back on line and went forward till sometime in 2008. I guess the Vast stayed down until earlier this year. So, have I been gone for a little over 1 year or 5+?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I've played my char as having been away for some time. With the recent changes ( especially to the land scapes) it was easier for me as a player to play off the differences .
I think ultimately it would be up to you. Some questions i would pose to my self in considering this would be...Has your char been here the entire time? If so what has he been doing? Has he been away on a long voyage? How did he spend the time away?
To me it was much easier to say my char was away, and had just returned from taking care of some family business.

Hope that helps. Dm's would have to comment on any official stance.

Welcome back by the way!!

As a DM, any story elements that I continue from before will pick up pretty much where they left off.

If you've had an extended absence from the server during times when it was online, then playing as returning from a trip elsewhere, as Quinn mentioned, is a good idea.
