A thread of the events of the battle...

There were many who could not make it because of real life events, and many who tried to get in but could not. I think it would be nice for someone(s) to write a description or recap of what happened if possible. Wether by DM(s) or Player(s). If for no other reason than too add to the background of what would have been common knowledge of what happend. Many will go into game without a clue of how it turned out. Doesn't have to be long just a short description of what occurred at the gates and elsewhere that the towns people would know about. Sounds like a great event, and I wish I could have made it. It's great that there are DM's who care about their citizens like the the DM's here.

Good suggestion Dreamweaver.

And as a side note, DM's love when PC's write things up for the events they created in the Tales forum

It's appreciated when we see that happen.
OOC:
well, it was brutal on the west gate (as I'm sure the other gates were).
we were attacked several times... by goblins, worgs and bugbears (not to mention the drow sniping from the trees).
Trying to remember who was there...
Gartok, Jach, Milton, Losin, Eliath, Scythe, Innu... geez I'm forgetting somebody (or a couple somebodies). And Tiruva and Caano showed up later to help out.
Nobody died... although Eliath got hit by a poisoned arrow from the drow and had to be taken off the battlefield.
Wave after wave came at us... but we held.
I'm sure there are others that can do it justice, but the south gate was terrifying. Without Julisette, I think we'd have all been feeding the trees by now.

Tolwyn fell twice only to be rescued by Averas and Julisette repsectively, Trent fell once and only some ferverent praying to Chauntea brought him back to the land of the living.

We were beset on all three sides by Goblins, Worgs, Bugbears and Shamans, not to mention the Drow of course. Julisette and Averas were tossing off some pretty spectacular magic, and Trent, Caano, Falcon and Karn were all in the thick of it, supported by some superb archery courtesy of Amiolas, Corvus and of course Elrith. (towards the end, even they dropped their bows and closed to melee with the enemy)

Things got a bit testy (IC) at times, but I'll leave that for a post in the Tales in the Weaving (go Cafall/ish07). All in all though, Tolwyn thinks we did a damn fine job. I think she made a couple of new friends too.

((PS - I have a screenshot of the defenders of the south gate lining up to take a bow if someone can PM me to tell me how to post it))
Harlequin565, that shot 'kicks @$$'!! Thanks for taking it. I was so 'in the moment' that I forgot to get any screen captures.

Oh, by the way, Faelar Ammirynth of Evermeet, that Sun-Elf you love to hate, is compiling an Elven history of the Battle of Dragon Dale. So, you elves, PM me with what you did during the battle. Of course, he's biased. He's a Sun-Elf. I'll post it to 'Tales in the Weaving' soon.
Here's the only screenshot I remembered to get of the west gate.
www.geocities.com/thebovr...blins.html

Spinning the camera around to get the archers on the right in meant that I missed out a few beasties that are just off screen to the left.
I know I have a slightly skewed perspective as my character is an archer and sat in the relative safety of the tower for most of the battle, but I remember this wave as one of the easiest to repel.

Well, I took a number of screenshots at the South Gate. I'll put them up here, and perhaps in Tales also, if a story is written up there.

Keeping watch (This was before the attack started):
www.aqun90.dsl.pipex.com/thevast/keeping_watch.jpg

Making preparations:
www.aqun90.dsl.pipex.com/thevast/caltrops.jpg

Archery:

Wave...:

After wave...:
www.aqun90.dsl.pipex.com/thevast/more_dead_attackers.jpg

The Temple arrives:

Always the first to die (Bugbear style):

Reaching a standstill:

Still standing..:

An unexpected guest... and a more than welcome ally:

And highlighted (the first screenshot was kinda dark):
www.aqun90.dsl.pipex.com/thevast/glowing_big_finale.jpg

The fight is over:
No problem, Lia.

The screenshots are great; however, all these close-ups of Elrith have made me realize how strangely proportioned the female elf's arms are in relation to the rest of her body. She looks a bit like a colored-in stick figure in the Archery shot...
