Tech Problems

Just wanted to give a "heads up" to anyone who has roleplayed with any of my characters. It may be a while before I can get back online.<br>

I won't be able to log into the Vast until I can get 1.62 working on my computer. Seems that it didn't agree with the last patch as it crashes my computer upon startup of NWN now. I'm trying everything to fix it and get back as soon as I can.<br>

I totally understand.<br>
I yesterday, was attacked by a bad case of ad-ware/spy-ware, that has been throwing popups, etc. onto my system. I am working on getting everything fixed (it's pretty scary how fast stuff multiplied), but until I can, there is no way I can do much online... everytime I have a popup, it locks up NWN, and minimizes it. I don't dare go anywhere... I could get killed by a mere goblin if I wasn't able to react.<br>
Hope you get your issues resolved, and hope to be back up and SAFELY running again soon.<br>

Seems my problem is SecureRom related. I have the original discs, but my guess is that my DVD-ROM drive is so old that it won't agree with SecureRom anymore. I've tried updating it's driver and Firmware to no avail.<br>

I may have to bite the bullet and get a new drive tommorrow. I didn't really want to upgrade this computer anymore because I am building a new one currently. *shrugs* Oh well.<br>

Randy... I can vouch for that very program Ish has. It really does the trick.<br>

Try <!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=home" target="top">Spybot S&D</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--> as well. It gets all the spyware that ad-aware misses out on, and you can immunize your system with it as well. It's freeware and trustworthy.<br>

And now that we've got a little trend going here, if you don't have an actual virus scanning program installed, you can always use this <!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp" target="top">Trend Micro Free Online Virus Scan</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--> to check for viruses once in a while. It's pretty good.<br>

OK... did Spybot S&D, did Ad-Aware, did Spywareblaster, did Norton Antivirus... use Mozilla (love it BTW - 'cept when it's time to update, you have to go through and redo all your personal settings). Think I did one or two others as well.<br>
The people at Cexx.org are examining a few files on my system (might have some new stuff that hasn't been reported/blocked yet), and have told me certain things to delete with HiJackThis.<br>
We'll see how things turn out.<br>

I don't know if any of that is also a registry editor, but one would help clear up any bad enties there. Very helpful tool to make registry editing easy. I think mine is called regedit. Not sure, I'm at work.<br>

BTW, I got a new Samsung DVD/CDRW ROM drive today. Hopefully, I'll be back in the Vast shortly.<br>

My biggest problem is... I don't know what to delete/edit and what not to... that is where the good people of Cexx.org are helping me (that and letting me know which programs are worth using, and which are not).<br>

Well, the new drive didn't fix the problem. I was able to log in right away though, but not after I rebooted my computer.<br>

In the end, I had to use *cough* Psilax's *cough* advice. *clears throat* Everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help.<br>

This secure-rom problem you have if not fixed by a new DVD may come from another issue.<br>
<br>
1) It s known that the code used in sedure ROm have issue with a lot of DVD rom (don´t ask me why).<br>
<br>
2) some time tey also search for ghost like program that allow to replicate a program without having the disc in and so they block the acess to the game<br>
<br>
3) some for program that allow cracks and hacks...<br>
<br>
those security program are getting each time more invasive on our computers.<br>
<br>
Try to use a normal cd-rom if the problem persist... yah i know its dumb but.
